A few weeks ago four separate tornadoes touched down in Panhandle, including two near Panama City. Recent Tornadoes in Floridaįlorida has already had an active tornado season. These catastrophic losses took place in April alone, not accounting for previous tornadoes in the Sunshine State. This amounts to at least $1 million, alongside the hefty cost of reconstruction fees for locations like the power lines. Just a day later another tornado hit Winter Haven and also caused some damages. On April 10th there was a tornado in Bradenton that caused an estimated $1 million in catastrophic losses. That tornado picked up speeds to about 125 miles per hour. The strongest tornado was spotted around Laguna Beach, destroying a home and a small store. On April 13th four tornadoes touched down in Walton and Bay county, all with varying levels of intensity. Last week, Florida’s Marion county was hit by a tornado that downed power lines in the immediate area. In 2020 Florida had 54 tornadoes through September, not counting two tornadoes that touched down near Tampa in December.Įven in 2021 there have been instances of tornadoes seen throughout the sunshine state. Following that, we see that Florida had 29 tornadoes in 2019. Looking at the past few years, Florida had 57 tornadoes in the year 2017 and 46 tornadoes in the year of 2018. This statistic ranks it ahead of Tornado Alley states, with Kansas being put in second at 11.7 tornadoes averaged. Florida actually leads the nation with tornadoes with an average of 12.2 tornadoes per 10,000 square miles. Most people think of Tornado Alley as the tornado hotspot, but this ignores how Florida is home to many tornadoes every year. This is causing some to ask: is Florida in the middle of a new Tornado Alley? Florida Tornadoes By the Numbers In fact, the frequency of tornadoes in Florida has been steadily increasing. The aforementioned tornadoes are not in the middle of America, but situated are towards the southeast of the United States. These tornadoes result in catastrophic losses. The data seems to indicate that there are not only more tornadoes in number, but also more severe in impact. However, you might be shocked to realize that Florida gets more tornadoes than Tornado Alley. Tornado Alley refers to the central area of the United States where tornadoes are most common. Not only is this because of Dorothy, Toto, and the Wizard of Oz, but also because it is in the Tornado Alley. The management cleaned up the mess left in the twister’s path. “Uh, man, that is such a sad sight,” De Freitas is heard saying in the cellphone video. Several FPL crews worked quickly to restore power to the shopping center and neighboring residents.īack at Bird Bowl, rain water flooded floors, left electronics soaked, paint peeling and pieces of the ceiling on the ground. I didn’t think a tornado would hit down in Florida,” said customer Marlon Arias. We just drove a half an hour from the pumpkin patch to get here, and now we’re going to have to drive to another one,” she said. Yeah, now we gotta go.”įlorida Keys resident Taylor Dolson also drove a long way. “We drove all the way from Hialeah to over here, like a 30- to 40-minute drive ’cause of all this weather. The bowling alley closure left customers trying to get out of the rain feeling frustrated. The twister also slung a dumpster behind the bowling alley and shattered the front window of the CosmoProf Salon Supply store at 9257 SW 40th St., knocking out power to the shopping center. “I think what happened was the storm went around the back of the building because the power lines went down,” said De Freitas. The strong winds took down several residents’ fences. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado touchdown in the area, just northeast of Bird Road and Southwest 97th Avenue, at around 1:20 p.m.

That is why it is called a mechanical advantage.Īnvil size is not as critical. and a power hammer can hit a lot harder than a human. I would agree with the statement about the power hammer and a ratio. Its mass allows me to hammer sideways on occasion and it tends not to budge, I seldom use hand hammers weighing more than 3 pounds. My final purchase was a very large European anvil and I love its huge sweet spot (aka thick waist) and its massive top surface. I have used many different anvils for hand forging over the years. The Massey Clearspace hammers from the UK were perhaps an exception. Most of the old tyme power hammers had too little anvil IMHO. Thus, over time I have kept increasing anvil mass with improved "feel" and I rather expect that going higher would add the effect with some diminishing returns, My littlest 50 pound hammer has a 25:1 ratio, but I have never built that unit with less anvil mass and cannot really say anything about mass change effects. I moved on to better hammer designs before I did any anvil changing, and the better hammer designs used centered guides for much better control and rebound/percussion effects. Way back in time I made I-beam spine hammers with a much lower ratio of about 8:1. My experience with my power hammers is that 20:1 makes a more fun hammer than with the previous 16:1. The Soderfors also shows no sway or marking on the face but there are some chips out of the edges. A bearing doesn't rebound as well from the Trenton as the Soderfors either. Trenton ad the Trenton has a taller waist so there's more iron under the blow but it's a soft wrought body. Soderfors moves metal FAR better than my 200lb. Other than damage the anvil hammer ratio isn't such a big deal except for efficiency and overall hardness has almost as much to do with it as weight under the blow. Chipping edges doesn't have as much to do with hammer weight but the heavier the hammer the more likely and more severe the edge chipping so don't miss. So, I THINK using too heavy a hammer on a soft bodied anvil, especially if it's a light weight or thin faced one could result in eventual sway damage. I have seen a couple swayed anvils I THINK may be erosive wear but I don't know about the mechanics of that. I've never seen it in a Swedish cast steel anvil that hasn't been through a fire or such. I've seen this most commonly in wrought body anvils but some cast bodies too. Sway is (IMHO) caused primarily by deformation of the anvil below the face steel. The cause of edge damage is pretty obvious, though I'm sure some clever folk have come up with other methods. I only see two types of anvil damage on healthy anvil. The only legitimate hammer:anvil ratio I've seen raw data for is the power hammer ratio. Striker, horn, and hardie work are of course exceptions to this. One experianced guy working with a hand hammer is unlikely to damage any reasonably sized anvil, so if anone thinks they are suffering due to small anvil syndrome pratice more and slowly work up to a bigger hammer. However, when hand forging your strength, endurance, technique, and hammer size are as important as anvil size. If you work on the horn or in a swedge in the hardie hole, (or do much of anything more than forging a simple taper or beveling a blade) there is significantly less mass under the hammer and the overall mass of the anvil would need to go up if you wanted to maintain mass under the hammer. On a hand forging anvil this is not true. On a power hammer all of the anvil mass is directly below the hammer head. There is also a link somewhere here to a Japanese engineering paper placing the ideal ratio somewhat lower. The gist of the chart is that minimum shoud be about 10:1, there are diminishing returns beyond 20:1, and 15:1 seemed to be a sweet spot on the cost/benifit curve. showing POWER HAMMER tup to anvil ratios. There are a few threads on this in the power hammers section, and in those threads are refrenced a chart from Chambersburg Engineering Co. I realize a definitive paper is most likely not available but with enough people looking and discussing the subject we should be able to sort it all out. What is the original source? Who made or chose the numbers? I am looking for where all this started, the research that determined the *correct* size ratio. I have also seen comments that 3 and 4 pound hammers can be used but not for constant use as it will start to deform the anvil.ĭid someone long, or not so long, ago threw a guess into the air?ĭid it take hold like a urban legend and every one else repeat the number because it sounded like it had validity? Or is there research to prove the number? This is suppose to be the *correct* ratio as to not damage the anvil with use. That is a 2 pound hammer on a 100 pound anvil. I have seen where a hand hammer should be 2 percent of the anvil weight. There has been a lot of numbers thrown around for anvil size and hammer size. Sometimes the program can even secure members a day-of table when all else fails. In 2021, the popular reservation platform Resy launched its Global Dining Access program, which grants certain American Express cardholders priority reservations at popular eateries. Of course, the art of persistence can always work to your advantage (more on that later), but the rich are unsurprisingly doing what they do best: reaching into their wallets. Securing a spot at these tough-to-get-in restaurants has become a status symbol for New Yorkers-and even those who are well-in-the-know are scrambling to get a seat. While getting a table at Torrisi is almost impossible, the buzzy new restaurant holds the bar seating area specifically for walk-ins. Instead, people are waiting on a line that goes around the block until the 5 p.m. ( Ugly Baby, an uber-popular Thai spot in the tony Brooklyn neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, is the latest restaurant to stop taking reservations altogether. Several restaurants are even dropping the reservation system altogether. Not to mention, seating is limited in many places inflation is driving prices up and the food and beverage industry continues to be riddled by lingering supply chain issues caused by Covid. To make matters worse, more and more establishments are losing the landline and only releasing reservations 30 days in advance through apps like Resy or OpenTable. And if you’re not a regular and not tipping the maître d, you’re probably not getting a table.” “I travel a bunch, between New York and Miami and Los Angeles-even Europe-and it’s much tougher. “It’s 100% harder to get a reservation these days,” Miron Nissim, an NYC-based finance professional who makes a point of frequenting the buzziest restaurants in town, tells me. The manager was apologetic and offered desserts but by this point we just wanted to leave, eventually after some discussion items were removed from the bill and we left, so very disappointed.“If you’re not a regular and not tipping the maître d, you’re probably not getting a table at the hardest restaurants.” Finally when asked if all was ok Our waiters attitude was so poor, he was rude and arrogant to our complaints and walked away without discussion, he returned with a menu to point out that we had ordered appetisers, then offered the dessert menu, when we asked for the bill nothing had been taken off as good will for the poor food or service, when we said we were unhappy to pay the full amount he stormed off to get the manager. When we received our remaining dishes they were off poor quality, the pad Thai was overly sweet and lacking flavour, the jasmine rice hard and cold, like it had been sitting for hours, the coconut shrimp was ok but again cold, our order of jasmine rice was unnecessary due to the prawns being dry, I would have expected the waiter to advise of this to allow us to have made an adequate selection. We received 2 of our 5 dishes, which were luke warm, we expected the other dishes, but were told there was not enough room so they had decided to serve separately. We decided to share a number of dishes and took some advice from the waiter on which to try including appetisers and items from the main menu, we asked for it all to come together. We were seated on a very small table in the main dining area, which was fine, we were happy to be seated. Just after 8 we were going to leave and were advised our table would be ready shortly. At 7:30 we asked how long until a table would be ready to be advised we could use the table we were sitting at until 8, not acceptable and told them we would wait for a proper table as the ones in the bar are sofas and coffee type tables. On asking one of the staff we could use a reserved table until 8pm, fine we thought, we'll have a table by then. We went to get a drink in the bar but had to wait for a seat as even though we were early 6:30, all tables in the bar were reserved. On arrival there was an issue with our booking, it had been cancelled, originally we had booked via open table but decided to call to book directly instead, which we believed to have been done and spoke with the staff who confirmed on an email, with no booking we were advised they could fit us in if we could wait which we did. To start on a positive the venue is absolutely stunning, a definite experience and a must visit, only for a drink just to have a look as I don't think you would see many places like Tao, sadly we now know that to be good an bad. We booked back in November as a special night out to celebrate joint 40th birthday whilst in NYC and were highly disappointed.
Carbon steel can rust over time if not washed and dried thoroughly, but it is very sharp and can hold its edge. FREE delivery Thu, Aug 24 on 25 of items shipped by Amazon. Stainless steel stays sharp and is generally dishwasher safe. Electric Vegetable Peeler, Handheld Electric Potato Peeler Stainless Steel Blade Carrot Peeler Machine Lightweight Power Peeler for Kitchen Carrot Potato Cucumber Fruit (Blue) 1. ✔️ Material: The most common materials for vegetable peelers are stainless steel and carbon steel. Also look at how the blade connects to its holder - if the gap above the blade is narrow, the peeler can clog rather than release the peels with ease. A swivel blade allows you to peel vegetables with uneven surfaces (think celery root or ginger). In addition, the experts in the GH Institute prefer a blade that swivels. Whether straight or serrated, you want a blade that stays sharp. Julienne peelers are also popular: They include a series of fixed blades that give you thin, uniform strips for salads, spring rolls, and garnishes. We don't recommend serrated blades for potatoes because most leave behind ridges, but they're not as noticeable on softer items and the ease makes up for the presentation. ✔️ Blade: With vegetable peelers, should consider whether your task requires a straight blade - the classic style that can peel potatoes, apples, carrots and more - or a serrated blade, which is useful when peeling foods with delicate skins, like tomatoes and peaches. One pro tip: Look for a non-slip handle regardless of which model or brand you choose. Peeling is an inherently repetitive motion, so you want a tool that won’t cause fatigue or pain. ✔️ Handle: The best advice is to find a peeler that’s comfortable for you. Electric models hold the fruit or vegetable in place while rotating against a blade for quick, continuous peeling. Whether it includes its own motor or relies on the motor of an appliance like a stand mixer, it's a great choice for tackling a large amount of produce or if manual peelers aren't right for you. If possible, test one of each kind to decide which is more comfortable. They’re both effective means of peeling, but some experts find that straight peelers are suited to everyday peeling, like carrots, and Y-peelers provide more control and leverage with larger items, like squash. ✔️ Style: Manual vegetable peelers generally come in one of two styles: A straight peeler, which features a blade that’s in line with the handle, or a Y-peeler, which is shaped like a Y with the blade across the top. To put this in perspective: TikTok gained, on average, about 20 million new users per month over this period. TikTok, for example, launched in September 2016, and by mid-2018, it had already reached half a billion users. Some large social media sites, such as Facebook, YouTube, and Reddit, have been around for ten or more years, but other large sites are much newer. In the chart, we plot monthly active users across various platforms since 2004. This is arguably the beginning of social media as we know it. MySpace was the first social media site to reach a million monthly active users – it achieved this milestone around 2004. We begin with an outline of key trends and conclude with a perspective on the social media adoption rate relative to other modern communication technologies. Who uses social media? When did the rise of social media start, and how has the number of users changed over time? Here we answer these and other key questions to understand the history of social media worldwide. The rapid and vast adoption of these technologies is changing how we find partners, access information from the news, and organize to demand political change. This means social media platforms were used by one-in-three people worldwide and more than two-thirds of all internet users. These numbers are huge – in 2019, there were 7.7 billion people worldwide, with at least 3.5 billion online. Other social media platforms, including YouTube and WhatsApp, also had over one billion users each. Due to data availability the article and charts will not be updated.įacebook, the largest social media platform in the world, had 2.4 billion users in 2019. Just letting anyone know, this is a really fun experience I highly recommend fans of the series or horror itself, escape rooms to try this out. And people that can work as a team and not as "I can Do everything by myself". Like I said if you can get a group of four to eight friends. Well after that we were working on the next puzzle and this girl comes from the other side of the room and starts moving our (redacted) off the panel and it reset what we did. Well we had to have the (redacted) set up to activate a panel. If that is true then okay it makes sense, if not then she was just an annoying person who wasn't following what the group was working on and moving onto the next clue was. Me and a few others were thinking she was a plant. In one of the other rooms we solved a couple of the puzzles but this one chick seemed like she was sabotaging it by moving stuff around after we had it set up. Their was maybe a couple individuals who were being difficult by trying to talk over the clues given by Jigsaw at the start of the game in each room. A few of the other couples and some bros were pretty chill and we were working together. I did this with my girlfriend and we did have a good time but it got difficult during a couple of the rooms because everyone was trying to be an "ALPHA"/ "Chief" and not work together. Also I highly recommend if you plan on doing this, do this with a group of four or more. Be warned, if you are NOT a fan of the Saw Series, don't be shocked by what you see during this experience. Adam was great in making this experience stand out from a basic "standing in a room trying to solve" to a "Oh no their is some urgency". What can I say, this was a really fun experience.
